ace.rom — the Jupiter Ace's 8K system ROM (Forth), Jupiter Cantab Ltd, 1982 (designed and written by Richard Altwasser and Steven Vickers). Size 8192 bytes; SHA-1 597ba8a15a292688333c84dc9fd35172abe5e7e6. Its two 4K halves match the ROM dumps MAME's jupace driver lists (rom-a.z1 CRC32 dc8438a5, rom-b.z2 CRC32 4009f636). The file is byte-for-byte the ace.rom shipped with xAce (github.com/epatel/xAce) and CanAce (github.com/lawrencewoodman/CanAce). Status. The ROM is still copyright; it has not been placed in the public domain. It is distributed with Jupiter Ace emulators on the basis of a 1998 e-mail from Paul Downham of Boldfield Computing — the company that acquired Jupiter Cantab's remaining stock and assets after Jupiter Cantab went into liquidation — to Edward Patel, the author of xAce, which xAce and CanAce ship as boldcomp.email.txt: "I seem to remember that we gave the ROM listing away, but I am sure nobody is going to get upset about the emulator - so good luck to you." Every Ace emulator that ships the ROM (xAce, CanAce, EightyOne, pico-jupiter-ace) relies on that permission. I did not find a public statement from Richard Altwasser or Steven Vickers themselves about the ROM image, though it is often said that they are happy for it to be used for emulation. This site serves the ROM only to the in-browser emulator at /tools/jupiter-ace/, unmodified, and does not sell it. If you hold rights in the ROM and object to it being here, please say so (https://geekychris.github.io/feedback/) and it will be removed; the emulator also accepts a ROM file of your own, kept in your browser.
