Bambu 3MF inspector

Open a Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer .3mf or .gcode.3mf and see every plate — thumbnail, print time, filament per slot with colours in grams, metres and cost — the objects with their parts and modifiers, the printer, process and filament settings, and each plate's G-code, which opens in the G-code viewer or costs out in the filament job planner.

How to use it

A .gcode.3mf from Bambu Studio is a ZIP with everything about a job inside: the plates, how long each takes, how much of which filament, the slicer settings and the G-code itself. Bambu Studio shows it once you open the project; I wanted to see it without opening the slicer — on a laptop without it, or to check what a downloaded project will cost before printing it.

How to use it

Open or drop a .3mf or .gcode.3mf, or press Sample project for a two-plate example.

  • Summary — the slicer and version it was made with, the printer and process profile, the number of plates, and (for sliced files) total time, filament and cost.

  • A card per plate — the plate thumbnail, its name and objects, print time, grams of filament, cost, the first-layer time and whether supports are used, and a line per filament slot with its colour, type, profile, grams, metres and cost. Slicer warnings (such as a bed temperature too high for the filament) are decoded with the HMS code notes.

  • Open in G-code viewer sends the plate’s G-code to the G-code viewer in a new tab, to scrub through it layer by layer. Plates up to about 4 MB of G-code go across; bigger ones are downloaded instead, to open there by hand. Download G-code saves it; G-code details reads the header Bambu writes (layers, total and model time, filament length, weight, maximum height) and counts the filament changes.

  • Cost in Filament opens Filament and print cost on its Job from G-code tab with this plate’s grams, hours, parts per plate, the price per kg (weighted by use when a plate uses several filaments), the material of the main filament and the diameter filled in — to add electricity, wear, labour and a batch quantity.

  • Filaments — each slot’s type, profile, nozzle and plate temperature, max volumetric speed, flow ratio, pressure advance and retraction. The prices come from the filament profiles; change them here and the costs follow (remembered in this browser). The slot numbers are the slicer’s: which AMS slot feeds each one is chosen when you send the print, so the file doesn’t know.

  • Settings — layer height, walls, infill, supports, brim, sequence, speeds and accelerations, and the list of settings changed from the system profile.

  • Objects, parts and modifiers — every object with the plate it is on, its filament, its parts and modifiers (modifier, negative part, support blocker or enforcer, with their own settings), and the per-object settings.

A project .3mf that has not been sliced has plates, objects and settings but no times, filament use or G-code — slice it in Bambu Studio or Orca and save it, or export the plate’s sliced file. OrcaSlicer projects use the same layout and work the same way; a plain 3MF from another program shows only what the standard 3MF holds.

To tune the filament values shown here see printer calibration (its Bambu / Orca tab), and for a printer’s live AMS and status the printer farm dashboard.

Browser support

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (it needs DecompressionStream to unzip, Safari 16.4 or later). Big projects — hundreds of megabytes of mesh — take a moment to open, since the whole file is read into memory, but only the small metadata files are unpacked until you ask for G-code.

Privacy

The file is read in this browser and never uploaded. Handing a plate to the G-code viewer or the filament planner writes it into those tools' local storage in this browser. Price overrides are kept in local storage too.

Runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type leaves this page.
