Games
43 original games to download and play: 41 for the classic Amiga, 42 for AmigaOS 4, 38 for the Atari ST, STE and Falcon, and 39 for the 3DO, with how to run each.
These are the games I have written with Amiga DevBench and its sister kits for the Atari and the 3DO. They are all free and open source (MIT). Most began on the classic Amiga and were then ported: to AmigaOS 4 on PowerPC, to the Atari ST, STE and Falcon, and to the 3DO. Pick a game, pick your machine, download the zip, and follow the instructions for that machine below. Every zip has a ReadMe with the controls and what the game needs.
How to run them
Classic Amiga (68k)
You need an Amiga with a 68020 or better (an A1200, or an A500, A2000 or A4000 with an accelerator) and AmigaOS 3.0 or later; fast RAM helps. No Amiga? FS-UAE, WinUAE (Windows) and Amiberry (Raspberry Pi, Linux) all emulate one: set up an A1200 with a 68020 and Kickstart 3.x. Planet Chomp, Rolling Steel and Spectral Keep draw their 3D in software and need AGA or a graphics card; the faster the CPU the better.
-
Download the game’s
-amiga68k.zipand unzip it. Each holds a drawer named after the game: the program, the files it needs (music, levels) and a ReadMe. Keep them together. -
Copy the drawer to the Amiga: onto a hard disk or a floppy, or, in an emulator, into a folder you have mounted as a hard drive (FS-UAE and WinUAE both do that).
-
Open a Shell,
cdinto the drawer and type the program’s name. There is no Workbench icon.
To install them all at once there is an LhA of every drawer:
amiga_games-68k.lha. Unpack it on the Amiga with
lha x amiga_games-68k.lha.
AmigaOS 4 (PowerPC)
You need AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition, on a PowerPC Amiga (an AmigaOne, Sam440 or Sam460, a
Pegasos II, or an A1222) or on QEMU’s emulated sam460ex. The AmigaOS 4 builds draw at twice
the classic resolution in full colour, some with painted title screens.
-
Download the game’s
-amigaos4.zipand unzip it (AmigaOS 4 unzips them itself, too). -
Copy its drawer anywhere on the Amiga: a hard disk, or for a quick try,
RAM:. -
From a Shell,
cdinto the drawer and run the program. Keep the files beside it: the.imgpictures, the music.
All of them at once: amiga_games-os4.lha.
Atari ST, STE and Falcon
You need the machine named under each game: an ST, an STE (for its blitter, DMA sound or hardware scrolling) or a Falcon030; Rolling Steel and Planet Chomp need a Falcon with a 68060 accelerator. No Atari? Hatari emulates them all; it runs well with EmuTOS, the free TOS, so you need no ROM.
-
Download the game’s
-atari.zipand unzip it: a folder with the.PRG, itsDATAfolder if it has one, andREAD_ME.TXT. -
Copy the folder to a floppy or hard disk, or point Hatari’s GEMDOS hard drive at the folder you unzipped it into (
hatari --harddrive <folder>, or in Hatari’s disk settings). -
Choose the machine (ST, STE or Falcon) and open the
.PRGfrom the desktop.
