Markdown and AsciiDoc previewer
Live side-by-side preview of Markdown (GitHub-flavoured) and AsciiDoc, with a table of contents, word count, HTML export, and HTML → Markdown conversion.
Added · updated 28 October 2026
Works with
- Markdown ↔ AsciiDoc converter Formatting and referenceConvert sends the document to the converter, and its Open in previewer button sends the result here
- Documentation linter Formatting and referenceLint sends the document to the linter, and its Open in previewer button sends one here
How to use it
Choose Markdown, AsciiDoc, or HTML → Markdown and type on the left.
-
Markdown is GitHub-flavoured: tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code with highlighting. Tick Line breaks as <br> for GitHub-comment-style line breaks.
-
AsciiDoc is rendered by Asciidoctor.js — the same processor family that builds this site — so tables, admonitions, attributes, and
[source]blocks look as they will in a real build. -
HTML → Markdown converts pasted HTML (a web page, an email, a CMS export) to clean Markdown with tables and fenced code.
-
Shortcuts: Cmd/Ctrl+B bold, +I italic, +E inline code, +K link.
-
Convert ↗ opens the document in the Markdown ↔ AsciiDoc converter; Lint ↗ in the documentation linter.
-
Export downloads a standalone HTML page; Copy output copies the rendered HTML (or the Markdown in HTML mode). Scrolling the editor scrolls the preview.
All rendering happens in your browser; output is sanitised with DOMPurify. The libraries (marked, Asciidoctor.js, Turndown, DOMPurify) load from jsdelivr on first use. Each mode remembers its own text.
Presenting
The rendered document as slides: a new slide at every horizontal rule (--- in Markdown, ''' in AsciiDoc), or at each top-level heading when there are none. → or Space moves on, ← goes back, Home and End jump. Press ⛶ Present (beside Share link) or F to open it; Esc or F closes it and T switches between dark and light. It goes full screen where the browser allows, otherwise it fills the window, and keeps the screen awake. Controls and the pointer fade after a few idle seconds.
Share link → Link options → Open in presentation mode makes a link that opens straight into this view. Browsers only allow real full screen after a click, so a link opened cold shows the view filling the window with a “Click for full screen” button.
Sharing
Share link copies a URL that opens this tool exactly as you have it. Hand-written links work too: ?mode=markdown|asciidoc|html&text=…&layout=split|edit|preview&breaks=1. The preview is sanitised, as always. For example ?mode=markdown&text=%23%20Hello%0A%0A*It%20works*.
