Smith chart

An interactive Smith chart: plot a load (or click to place one), add series and shunt inductors, capacitors and resistors, lengths of line and stubs, and watch the impedance move towards the centre — with the admittance grid, the VSWR circle, a table of every point and CSV/JSON export.

How to use it

Set the reference impedance Z₀, the frequency and the load, then add steps from the load towards the source:

  • Series L, C, R move the point along a constant-resistance circle.

  • Shunt L, C, R move it along a constant-conductance circle — turn on the admittance grid to see those circles.

  • Line (electrical degrees at Z₀) rotates the point clockwise around the centre at constant |Γ|; 180° of line is a full turn.

  • Open and short stubs add the susceptance of a shunt line of Z₀.

The dashed green circle is the final SWR. The table lists Z, Y, Γ (magnitude and angle) and SWR at every point; copy it as CSV or download the whole design as JSON. Click anywhere inside the chart to place the load there.

⛶ Full screen (or F) gives the chart the whole screen — the browser’s full screen where it is allowed, otherwise a full-window layer (iPhone); the chart grows with the window, the load, steps and table sit in a column beside it on a wide screen, and ◫ Panels hides them. Escape leaves.

To compute the component values for a match, use the matching networks tool, then enter them here to see the path.
