When I am debugging locally I rarely have enterprise logging infrastructure to hand. Little Log Peep gives me Splunk-like search over log files on my own machine.

The search page with facets

What it does

  • Browse for log files, configure a parser, preview how it extracts fields, and monitor indexing.

  • Search one or more indices, ordered by time or relevance, with facets showing the frequency of field values; refine by clicking facets or highlighted values.

  • Constrain by time with ranges or an interactive time selector.

  • Chain operations with pipes — aggregate by a field, draw time charts, bar charts, and pie charts.

  • A SQL query interface, export to CSV, JSON, or PDF, and export into a local database.

  • A log generator for testing, and several parser types.

How it is built

Java with Spring Boot and Lucene: an indexing service with pluggable parsers, a search API with faceting and a pipe language, and a browser UI served by the application.
